The Takers of the Giving Mountains
Gentle mountains
of the people-sized peaks
With their weapons against you,
the takers have made you into
picked-over mountains
Long before they began devouring you
the psalmist knew and revered you
a gluttonous feast it has been
while your precious, your people,
are left with the scraps
Picked-over mountains
the takers have had their terrible way
with you
never asking, always telling
what they would do to you
and they did
and continue to this day to do it
'People me' you said
to those who came to home you
and home you were to them
the settlers of your people-sized peaks
Others too came, the takers
and with their holocaust machines
have gutted you
replacing a mountain with a valley
and where there was a valley
making a mountain
But their remake was
upsidedown insideout
all wrong all wrong
How can you fight them?
for they cannot even hear you
above the sound
of their holocaust machines
as they unrecognizably rearrange you
never to be the same again
never to be the same
